Knowing about gas water heater and its installation environment

a. Knowing about gas water heater:

  1. Outdoor water heaters (RF type): As the supply of gas and exhaust of the water heater are conducted in outdoors, this type of water heater should be installed in a well-ventilated outdoor space, such as the exterior wall of a building or an open balcony, and should be designed to withstand wind and rain.
  2. Semi-closed forced exhaust type water heaters (FE type): The air required for combustion is drawn from indoors, and the exhaust produced during the combustion process is forcefully discharged outdoors via an exhaust pipe equipped with a mechanical device, such as an exhaust fan.
  3. Sealed forced exhaust type gas water heaters (FF type): The air required for combustion is drawn from the outdoors via a pipe equipped with a mechanical device, such as an air supply fan. The exhaust produced during the combustion process, is vigorously discharged outdoors through an exhaust pipe that also incorporates a mechanical device, such as an exhaust fan. These systems are entirely isolated from the indoor air environment!

b. The gas water heater installation environment

  1. Outdoor water heaters (RF type): Should be situated in a well-ventilated outdoor space. If installing an RF-type water heater on a balcony, avoid adding additional doors, windows, or awnings, and avoid hanging an excessive amount of clothes on the balcony, as this could obstruct proper ventilation.
  2. Forced exhaust type gas water heater (FE type and FF type): A forced exhaust type water heater must be installed in a location with inadequate ventilation, such as a bathroom, kitchen, or a balcony with enclosed windows, to ensure proper discharge of exhaust to the outdoors.
  3. If the water heater is improperly installed, promptly contact a qualified professional specializing in gas water heater and piping installation to coordinate the repositioning or replacement of the water heater. Furthermore, until the necessary improvements are implemented, ensuring adequate external ventilation while operating the gas water heater is absolutely essential!
